Dog Grooming Courses

We offer dog grooming courses right here in Sheffield, in our busy, popular dog grooming salon. We have a wonderful client base of dogs in a variety of breeds who regularly book in for our dog grooming students.

Places on the Award course are available to book ad hoc. We have places available on our certificate course starting in August 2022 and our Diploma course starting in November 2022.

We're sure you'll love our dog grooming courses and can't wait to enrol you!

Q. Do you accept government funding for the dog grooming courses?

A. Unfortunately we are not eligible as a training provider to accept the advanced learner loan. Young people may be eligible for help with course costs via The Princes Trust who deal directly with the candidate.

Q. How long are the days?

A. Each day is 9am until 4pm with 2.5 hours worth of homework each day.

Q. When is the next available course?

A. We get several enquiries a week for our courses so we work from a waiting list. Our courses run every quarter usually and we follow the academic calendar. We currently have a waiting list for our courses in January 2022. We contact everyone on our waiting list 3 months in advance of the course start date with a questionnaire and details of how to enrol if a place is to be available still and offered.

Q. How long are the courses?

A. The guided learning hours are set by the awarding body, iPET Network, which can be found by clicking on the different course options above. We offer the Diploma 2 days per week and the Certificate 1 day a week so the total days is divided weekly. Four Paws Groom School in Cheshire offer the iPET Network courses intensively and have accommodation available to candidates.

Q. Is there an exam?

A. The iPET Network qualifications are assessed via practical assessments during the practical sessions and written assessments that are completed at home via an ePortfolio. There is not a nationally set exam like there is for the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming. If you would like to know more about how the qualifications are assessed please contact us and we can send you a qualification overview document with more information.

Q. Will I be able to run my own dog grooming business at the end of one of your courses?

A. The qualification criteria is different in each qualification. You can find more information about the units on the iPET Network website. The Diploma is aimed at professional level but as with any career experience is also a factor in your career progression. Everyone learns at a different pace and your competency is assessed so there is no guarantee that every candidate will pass the required assessments at the end of the course. We appreciate that it can be tricky to find work experience in dog grooming so we offer the option of work experience as an assistant to all our candidates after their course has finished but this is not compulsory. We have had many students go on to successfully open their own salons directly after their training but not all.
